Hello,

I've been using AVG Free for long time. I also recommended family and friends to try it out!

Just one friendly reminder: AVG Anti-Spyware Free will run automatic-scanning your hard drive daily for first 30 days. After that, you will have to manual to get it started otherwise it will not scan your hard drive till you purchase it.

The best thing to do is get Microsoft Defender as 2nd Anti-spyware and it is free.

Other optional: Try Ad-Aware SE Personal - it's free, too.

BTW, not kidding on uninstalling any old antivirus programs. You can seriously bunge up your computer that way.

I've been using (on my windows at work; linux only at home!) Avast Anti-Virus for the last couple of years and it's an excellent program. Also free, just needs a yearly registration process which I've found to be very straight forward & I don't get spam from them at all. Its self updating with the virus database, and will let you know if the program itself needs updating.

There's some real gems out there, if you know where to look. I'll check out the AVG, I'm always on the look out for good anti spy ware stuff (have used spyblaster for a long time, but they seem a bit tired these days or something).
